Today the new World Series Of Fighting organization had their press conference to address some details on their first event, scheduled for November 3rd at Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. They officially announced that WSOF will partner with NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus) to air the first event as part of a one-year deal. The plan is to hold somewhere between 8-10 events within their deal.
Company President and kickboxing legend Ray Sefo announced the likes of Bobby Lashley, Gregor Gracie, and Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante would be a part of their inaugural show. Former WEC Bantamweight champion and former UFC fighter Miguel Torres is in the main event against a TBA opponent.
For those itching to know what is in store for November 3rd, here's a breakdown of fighters scheduled to compete as well as booked fights.
Fights on the card include:
- Gerald Harris vs. Josh Burkman
- Gesias Cavalcante vs. John Gunderson
- Ronys Torres vs. Brian Cobb
- Gregor Gracie vs. Tyson Steele
Fighters scheduled for the card but need an opponent are:
- Miguel Torres in the main event
- Rolles Gracie
- James McSweeney
- Bobby Lashley
The expected tournament format has been put on hold, so all of these fights are of individualized importance instead of a Bellator-style knockout tournament. WSOF will also use a Decagon, meaning a 10-sided cage instead of Strikeforce's Hexagon or the UFC's Octagon or whatever YAMMA tried to do.
It is very important to note this card will be going against Strikeforce: Mir vs. Cormier so plenty of MMA to watch on November 3rd that doesn't involve the UFC. More importantly, this is more MMA readily available on basic cable with plenty of talented fighters and recognizable faces on the card.
